Acting as an Executor

If you are acting as an executor for someone’s Will, you are personally and financially liable for the administration of the estate. This can be quite a daunting prospect.

If the deceased made a Will and you are named as an executor, there are certain responsibilities which you have to undertake. One of these is to ensure that, as far as possible, the deceased’s wishes are carried out (for example they may have left certain legacies in their Will). Depending on a range of different factors, you may need to apply for ‘Probate’. Note that, if the deceased owned a property, you will need to have a reasonable estimate as to its value before applying for Probate or finding out whether Inheritance Tax will need to be paid
