About National Grief Advice Service

The National Grief Advice Service (Registered Charity No. 1211283) provides essential support for individuals coping with grief and loss. Our services are designed to offer an alternative to medication by focusing on compassionate, holistic care that addresses the emotional, mental, and practical aspects of grief. We aim to help individuals process their grief and find healthy ways to cope, all while providing the support they need during such a difficult time.

Types of Grief We Support:

We understand that grief comes in many forms, and we offer support for a variety of grief experiences, including:

  • Bereavement Grief: The emotional pain and mourning after the death of a loved one.
  • Anticipatory Grief: Grief that occurs when anticipating the loss of a loved one, such as in cases of terminal illness.
  • Disenfranchised Grief: Grief that is not openly acknowledged or validated by others, such as grief from the loss of a pet or in non-traditional relationships.
  • Complicated Grief: Grief that lasts for an extended period and may be more intense or debilitating, making it difficult to heal.
  • Ambiguous Loss: Grief caused by situations such as dementia or addiction, where a loved one is physically present but emotionally absent.

Services We Offer:

  • One-to-One Counselling: Our professional, confidential counselling sessions provide a supportive environment where individuals can explore their grief, understand their emotions, and develop coping strategies. Our trained counsellors work with individuals to help them process their grief in a way that suits their unique needs, offering a safe space for healing and emotional growth.
  • Grief Groups: Our grief support groups provide a space for individuals to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. These groups offer mutual support, where people can share their stories, express emotions, and gain strength from one another. Talking with others who understand can significantly reduce feelings of isolation and provide comfort during difficult times.
  • Befriending Service: Our Befriending Service connects grieving individuals with compassionate volunteers who offer emotional support and a listening ear. This service is available through various formats, including:
  • Phone: Grieving individuals can speak to a volunteer over the phone, offering the comfort of support from home.
  • Video Calls: For those who prefer face-to-face interaction, we offer video calls for a more personal connection.
  • Face-to-Face: For individuals who prefer in-person support, our volunteers can meet with them in a safe, comfortable setting.
  • Wellbeing Centre in Grantham: We are proud to offer a dedicated space for those in need of grief support. Our Wellbeing Centre provides a variety of free services, including:
  • One-to-one grief support sessions
  • Group support meetings
  • Holistic therapies to promote emotional and physical well-being
  • Mindfulness and relaxation sessions
  • Practical guidance and coping strategies for managing grief
