What to do when someone dies at home and the death is expected:

  • If you are alone, call a friend or family member for support.
  • Call a funeral director to come and remove the deceased to the funeral home. If the deceased passed away in a home or care home, the staff will usually organise this for you.
  • Call the deceased’s GP service to inform them of the death. A doctor will need to issue a medical certificate stating the cause of death and also provide you with a formal notice confirming that a medical certificate has been signed. This is needed to register the death.
